DIY Basil Pesto
Fresh Homemade Basil Pesto is an easy traditional homemade basil pesto. 7 ingredients = so fresh, so good and so saucy!
Oh my goodness y’all my basil plant is still huge. Apparently, I don’t use enough basil while cooking; or I have a green thumb that is out of control! So I figured I would make some homemade basil pesto and y’all know what that means?!?! Next week, be sure to come back to see some pesto infused recipes. Yum-yum!
So pesto…the best thing about pesto is that is it practically impossible to mess up. Truly you just mix everything together in a food processor and ta-da – you’ve got pesto!
Fresh Homemade Basil Pesto
- 3 cups fresh basil leaves slightly packed
- 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- ¼ cup toasted pine nuts
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- ½ cup olive oil
Add the basil leaves, parmesan cheese, minced garlic, lemon zest, pine nuts and lemon juice into a blender or food processor.
Blend continuously until the ingredients start to breakdown.
Stream in the olive oil and allow the ingredients to emulsify with the oil; continue processing until the oil is combined with the basil and your other ingredients.
Taste the pesto, add additional garlic or parmesan to preference.
Homemade pesto can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week
