Durango, Colorado or Bust!
Are you ready for the ride?
Day two in Durango, Colorado started with a late rise, cup of tea and a oh so yummy and filling breakfast. I had A garden scramble which was good but Steve had a green chili enchilada style breakfast burrito and it was Ah-MAZ-ing!
After we got ready for the day, we headed downtown to pick up our train tickets for the day’s D & S NGRR Summer Brew Train ride. Beer, food and music…how can you go wrong with that!?!
Our train ride featured Area breweries on each train include Animas Brewing Co, Carver Brewing Co, Ska Brewing, and Steamworks, New Terrain Brewing and Bottom Shelf Brewing! All of which you know I sampled.
It was so much fun. Before you hop onboard a historic narrow gauge train at Rockwood Station you check in and receive your tasting glass.
Once everyone is checked in and on the train it begins its journey to Cascade Canyon! On board these diesel-powered trains, knowledgeable Colorado craft brewers will introduce you to a light sampling of their fine ales and educate you about the process required for crafting each one. And let me tell you there was enough beer to give your seconds and even thirds of some of your favorites.
This train ride let’s you experience the iconic canyon views along the highline on their shortest excursion. This train excursion is perfect for giving you an unforgettable train adventure with incredible geological features and fantastic scenery that is downright jaw-dropping.
While at Cascade Canyon, guests enjoy lunch, live music and more beer in your next free gift, a souvenir beer glass. Lunch was delicious! We had so many options! There was a Cigar Bar with Smoked Pork Cigars, kraut and cheddar and beer cheese & beef cigars. A pretzel bar; a Spaetzel Bar with Beer-battered chicken & baby spinach, asparagus tips, buttered wild mushrooms, fire-roasted poblanos, beer-braised onion rings; A Beer Brat & Cold Cut Bar: Beer Soaked Pigs in a blanket, Cheddar Brats, Genoa Salami, Black Forest Ham and Pastrami.
During our stop at Cascade Canyon we had the opportunity to do some hiking. We found an awesome footbridge and more beautiful scenery. Then we headed back to the train for the ride back to the station. During that ride we enjoyed coffee, water and dessert! German Chocolate Brownies and Lemon Bavarian Cakes. Lemon! My favorite!
Once we got back to Durango and off of the train, Steve and I took time to walk through the downtown shops, breweries (yes more beer), and train museum. Plus we have to make sure we got souvenirs for everyone back home!
And of course, there are multiple places for pictures!
After a quick salad for dinner (which I loved so much I of course had to recreate once we got home….coming to a blog near you soon) and a refresh in the hotel room, we were on the go again! Beer garden here we come! We spent the rest of the evening enjoying the live band, dancing and having fun together.
We ended this day utterly exhausted and so full of memories from a day packed with laughter, memories and love!
