My 2019 Year End Review

Good morning and happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already the 6th day of 2020? I’m kind of in denial about the whole thing to be honest with you. This past year was definitely the fastest year of my life and I don’t know how it’s already a new decade. But I woke up at 4 AM yesterday morning to sit down in the peace and quiet to spend a little time reflecting on the past year. For me, 2019 was a year of change for me filled with some truly amazing moments and some really challenging moments. So, grab your coffee (or tea) and let’s chat about it all!

Steve & I

This past year I feel like I finally found my groove as a resident of Flagstaff, Arizona. I’ve been pretty open about the fact that moving to a new city was a challenging transition for us (mostly for me!) but by the end the year I feel like things started to balance out. Hallelujah! It’s still a wild and crazy emotional ride over here most of the time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I finally have our storage unit emptied, everything has been unpacked, donated or thrown away and our little rental is starting to feel more like home.

I’m also proud to say that I finally found the path to a good balance with blogging, travel, my real job and my personal life. That’s kinda tricky when it comes to this job–which can sometimes feel like a 24/7 gig. But this year I am going to really try to put boundaries up for myself in order to find that balance my life really needed. And I gotta say–it, so far, is totally freeing to give myself permission to say no more often. This past year I spent more time with family (especially my daughter), making new friends, getting involved in my new community, and focused more on what matters most to me in life. I’m definitely going to keep that trend going in 2020!

Emma & I

I’ve been blogging now for three years (this all started in December of 2015) and in a lot of ways this blog has evolved with me over that time, not to mention also changed names and focus completely. I went from only sharing recipes on Carrie’s Home Cooking to now sharing a little bit of everything on They Call Me Mama D–from travel to DIYs, recipes, and even just life advice. I feel like I did a pretty good mix of it all in 2019. And I think it’s safe to say this was my FAVORITE year of blogging. I loved mixing it up and trying new things. This year I decided to just have fun with it and I’m soo grateful to all of you for sticking with me! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Us in Disneyland

This year was definitely a year of personal growth for me and I feel like life has challenged me in a lot of ways in 2019. I didn’t always share those challenges here with all of you, but I’m happy to say that I learned a lot about myself. It allowed me to truly embraced who I am–flaws and all. I stopped caring so much about what other people think and I just let myself be me. In that process I learned that I’m actually stronger than I realized. I also learned that perspective is everything. What you think of yourself and your life will determine your own happiness, so you might as well focus on the positive, right?! RIGHT.

Me and my Baby Baxter

I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting me in 2019 because let’s face it, most of the time I have no clue what I’m doing!

Here’s to a new decade full of love, happiness and peace!
